What’s the best all around phone holder? Well it all depends on what your basing it on. For this review we’ll focus on 3 things that make a good phone holder. In hand use, in vehicle use and other use along with all around price. Any good phone holder should transition from one to the other with no problem or extra parts needed.
With all things considered my choice is Pop-Socket brand. It comes in so many styles but this post is mainly about functionality and price. If you were born yesterday and haven’t heard of the Pop-Socket brand, its a thin disc that sticks to the back of your phone that pops out for you to slip your fingers into. Its incredibly convenient and comes with many accessories that fit it.
First we’ll cover the in hand functionality. The way the Pop-Socket is designed it fits between you index and middle finger perfectly without effort. Other brands are a loop type or ring and you have to take the extra step of slipping you finger through it. And the weight distribution feels closer to the phone with the Pop-Socket rather than the phone hanging with the ring.
Next we’ll get to the in car use. There are two options and I prefer and use the first. The vent wedge. This little beak shaped point plugs into your vent and holds your phone. It fits the Pop-Socket when its in the closed position so its very secure. The vent may move with the car so try to pick a vent that the phone has a piece of the dash to support it. The other option is a adhesive that sticks to a part of your dash. Its much more secure but may leave sticky on your dash and in the heat. There’s other applications like magnet mounts that may be more secure but are more invasive to your car and cost way more.
Lastly its all of the “other” uses. When watching media it sits easily on its side for hands free viewing on a flat surface. I also use the adhesive style holder in my shower for music or podcasts. Lastly the Pop Mount 2 / Flex Mount is the last tool I use. This mount is super versatile. From a flat surface to gripped to the front of my Bug-a-salt to get the shot, it works in many situations.
For all of these options, each piece is is no more than $20 with most of them in the $15 range. I’ve had my current Pop Socket for about a year and a half and the vent mount that’s in my car has been there for about the same. I don’t have air conditioning in my car but in my wife’s car when using the mount I turn off the vent I’m using it on.
So what’s the best overall phone holder? Between functionality, style and price, Pop Socket is the obvious choice. Hit the links bellow to check out some options mentioned above!
